Construction: 24K Gold & Platinum Plated Porcelain

Age: ca. 1950

Condition: Excellent pre-owned condition. No chips, cracks, or crazing. Minor spots of gold loss and throughout consistent with age and use. Salt and pepper shakers are missing their stoppers. Please see photos. 

Details: Arzberg porcelain is a brand of German-made porcelain known for its high-quality, functional, and innovative designs, with a history dating back to 1887.  Each piece in this set is marked “Arzberg Bavaria” and has a stamp that reads “24 CARAT / PLATINUM / COIN GOLD” on the bottom. The gold and platinum finish is applied through a process of applying liquid bright gold and platinum, or a liquid suspension of gold/platinum particles that is painted or applied to the surface of the porcelain. After it dries, the piece is fired at a high temperature, which burns off the organic materials and fuses the gold or platinum to the piece, leaving a decorative finish.
