Forest in Autumn Signed Impressionist Oil on Board, 1887

Forest in Autumn Signed Impressionist Oil on Board, 1887

Item: Framed Painting

Artist: Unknown, Signed

Age: September 27th, 1887

Medium: Oil on Board

Dimensions: 14 1/4ā€ W x 10 7/8ā€ T (19 1/2ā€ W x 15 3/4ā€ T with frame)

Condition: Very good. Board has warped with time and in effect, the seams of the frame have slightly separated at the corners. Please see photos!

Details: The signature in the lower right corner is visible, but indiscernible. A single line or phrase with the date ā€œ27 Sept 1887ā€ scripted beside it is written directly onto the back of the board, while an additional letter (no doubt with more information on the subject, context, or artist of the painting) is glued below. Many parts of the adhered letter have flaked away over time, and the steep cursive and foreign language make the message impossible to decipher.

This painting is a lovely work of art and even more interesting for its mysterious origin and maker.
