Vintage Bronze 105" Sleigh Bells (41 Bells)

Vintage Bronze 105" Sleigh Bells (41 Bells)

Item: Sleigh Bells
Make:  Unknown

Age: Early-Mid 20th Century

Construction:  Leather, Bronze, Metal

Dimensions:  105" Long (8'9"), 1" Wide Strap, 1 1/8" Diameter Bells

Condition:  Very good vintage condition. Leather has been conditioned. Bells have been gently cleaned but still have varied patina.  Metal buckle still functional.  One bell is missing. Please see photos.

Details:  Dark brown leather strap with 41 plain bronze crotal bells, all riveted onto the leather.  Twelve inch leather extension attached to end by two rivets.  Original darkened metal buckle still functions.  No discernible marks or stamps.  Likely designed for light use, as there is no lining strap.

Crotal bells are bells or rattles that produce sound from a pellet inside an enclosed object, rather than a clapper.  Better known as horse bells, jingle bells, sleigh bells or rumblers, they have been in use for centuries.  Their most well-known use is for horse-drawn vehicles to warn others of their presence.
