Condition: Mechanically just serviced & running. Softly and pleasantly chimes on the hours and also has a maritime moon dial & calendar. Calendar movement untested. Cabinet is distressed from age but still nice. Ā
Details: All parts are original. Includes the following letter of provenance from the previous owner:
"The owner of this clock was my grandfather born in Kansas in 1889 and movedĀ to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where he became one of the first CPAās. HeĀ was a Mason.Ā
He was the owner of the famous George Washington Hotel, aĀ landmark on 10th Street & Boardwalk in Ocean City. (1940ās to 1990ās). The big blue hotel was 80 feet high, with eight stories and was believed to be theĀ largest wooden structure in Maryland.
My grandfather loved baseball, so he bought a hotel in Bradenton Florida, TheĀ Robert Whitney Hotel. There he could watch Spring Training every year beforeĀ the official season started.
My father worked in the hotel during summers through college. It was at TheĀ Robert Whitney hotel where he met my mom, a writer from England.
My Grandfather gave the clock to my father, and it lived in Williamsburg, Virginia for the last 50yrs."
